Space Needle
The Space Needle Corporation owns a small piece of property in the middle of the Seattle Center grounds. The design problem was to enclose a larger retail space at the base of the Needle without touching the legs, make the enclosure as transparent as possible, make sure the Landmark status stayed intact and life-saftey codes were followed. Another design challenge was to protect up to 600 ticketed visitors in the rain on the spiral ramp before riding on to the elevators to the top. Spirals, circles and the cone shape of the walls all added to the compatibility and respect for the world renowned icon.
