I was asked to participate as the artist exhibiting works in Captain’s Supplies upstairs gallery in their relatively new Ballard home on Ballard Way NW for July and August 2016. Ballard retailers that have a gallery space open up their shops to people interested in art on the Second Saturday evening of every month. When asked to show it was a bit of a short notice but several of my prints had been produced in the last year and some had a strong Puget Sound, Seattle or nautical theme so they could fill up a lot of the space in conjunction with paintings and sculptural pieces. Several pieces that had not been seen before just needed finishing touches and I sketched out some smallish sculptures I could render in PLA 3D printed plastic adding some colored resin for water as well as pieces that duplicated the scale in wood with some steel tops as supports.
The gallery space of the upper retail area holds older sextons and compasses as well as new large telescopes for sale and there is plenty of wall space for the art. The space has a great volume and the show displays nicely. With a dozen or so sculptural pieces there are several paintings and many prints. If you are an art buyer, collector, artist, or a printmaker or printmaking teacher or student, this would be a wonderful show to view for many linoleum carving and plate assembling and overprinting techniques, there is even some sewn work where impressions are sewn onto printmaking paper base layers. Come enjoy the paintings and sculpture as well.
If you want to see or talk to the artist, Jon Taylor will be available at the Opening Reception, Thursday July 7th from 5pm to 7pm and at the Second Saturday Ballard Art Walks for July 9th and August 13th from 6pm to 9pm.
If you can’t make it any of those times feel free to visit the gallery during Captain’s business hours from July 8 to August 28, 2016.
